Scot Cruises

I’m a Scot who loves cruising. I love Scottish cruises, but also love cruising on ships of all shapes and sizes all across the world. So by ‘Scot Cruises’ I’m covering a lot of bases!

Enjoying the ‘Freedom’ of the Caledonian Canal

I’ve loved being out of the water since I was a wee laddie heading ‘doon the watter’ to the old Firth of Clyde resort of Dunoon and the dreamy Clyde islands of Arran and Bute. My late dad built his own yacht, Sisu, and we spent many a holiday in and around boats. You can read about an emotional trip to find Sisu after she was ‘lost’ for years here.

Cruising in style in Scotland

I’ve been a travel writer since the 1990s – you can read all about my job and how I got into it here. Over the years cruises have become a major part of what I do. I’ve been on week-long adventures around the Scottish coast over 20 times now and also cruised dozens of times abroad in the Med, Adriatic, Black Sea, Greenland, Macaronesia, South America and the Caribbean. I’ve also enjoyed river cruises in Scotland, Burma and Germany.

Scotland remains my favourite place to cruise. You just cannae beat its 800 islands and we have over 10% of Europe’s coastline too! Then there are wealth of wild creatures from soaring sea eagles to killer whales. And that’s not even going into the world class hiking, the whisky, the sheer joy of the ‘gloaming’ and boat fresh seafood.

Fine dining off the coast of Dominica

I’m usually either just back from a cruise or have one planned soon, averaging these days around 4-5 cruises a year.

I write about my cruises for magazines, newspapers and websites across the world, as well as report on them for BBC Radio. On social media you can find me at https://twitter.com/scotcruises and on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/scotcruises/.

Upcoming cruises include:

Red Moon Cruises – Inner Hebrides, July.

Majestic Line (Glen Shiel) – August or September tbc.

Skarv Lines – East Coast, September.

Caribbean – January 2021, tbc.

European Waterways (Enchante) – Canal du Midi, May, 2021 etc.

Have kilt, will cruise

You can check out some of my articles below. I genuinely love cruising and I hope I can inspire you too to either head back out on the water, or maybe take to it for the first time. There really is nothing quite like cruising. Slainte!
