Take a Photographic Tour of Scotland

5

Who needs to jet off around the world when one of the world’s finest destinations awaits right on the doorstep of everyone in the UK? Scotland these days is a world class destination and a photographer’s dream too with myriad photo opportunities, especially if you are travelling with your own wheels!

Touring Scotland is ideal for exploring some of its key regions and if you have your own caravan or motorhome then the country really opens up. Once you have your own wheels you can also take out caravan insurance to protect your holiday home with Shield caravan insurance, which gives you peace of mind as you snap away.

Here are some of the top spots to photograph:

Edinburgh Castle

There are few more dramatic sights in Europe than this spine tinglingly beautiful castle set on its own volcanic perch. Stand in Princes Street Gardens below and enjoy a prime view. Try and position yourself behind the fountain by the playpark to get the perfect postcard show.

Calton Hill

Calton Hill is perahps the finest place for photo opportunities in Edinburgh. Arrive at sunset for an epic vista across Edinburgh. Watch how the changing light makes the Nelson Monument and National Monument really shine.

Glasgow Cathedral

It may be difficult to get a decent shot of Glasgow Cathedral from the tight surroundings, but the building has plenty of ideosyncratic lines and shapes to work with that reward the effort.

Bannockburn Battlefield

Scotland’s most celebrated battlefiedl is famous in the history of Scottish Independence. The focus is the monument of King Robert the Bruce, a great spot for a great pic. Check out the new visitor centre, which is slated to open in 2014 before the 700th anniversary of the battle.

Castle Stalker
Tucked on an isolated islet in Loch Laich, Appin, on Scotland’s wild west coast Castle Stalker is the ideal focus for budding photographers. This remains one of the country’s most photographed castles and you will soon see why.

Eilean Donan Castle

If anything even more dramatic than Castle Stalker. Eilean Donan Castle sits majestically across its own bridge across the waters of Loch Duich. Further great photo opportunities await near the castle at the Ratagan viewpoint, Shiel Bridge and at the Five Sisters of Kintail, but you’d expect that in deeply scenic Scotland!
